The Challenge
Sanctuary Farms is an inspirational farm and compost operation located in Detroit’s lower east side. They have big plans for their property but limited time to market their offerings. When they connected with us, their out-of-date systems were holding them back from making sales and a lack of assets made marketing and accepting orders inefficient.
The Solution
For a year, with support from Fresh Food Connections and Michigan Good Food Fund, we worked hand in hand with the Sanctuary Farms team to develop a marketing strategy and created assets to support the implementation of that strategy.
Working with Christina and Carrie from TLD has been an exceptional experience for Sanctuary Farms. Their dedication, creativity, and attention to detail have truly transformed our marketing strategy. From the outset, they demonstrated a deep understanding of our goals and values, going above and beyond to ensure our message effectively reached our target audience.
Their expertise in marketing strategy and design has been instrumental in redesigning our approach, bringing fresh ideas and tailoring messaging to resonate with our audience.
What sets them apart is their genuine care for our mission, evident in their passion, creativity, and willingness to go the extra mile. Their efforts have helped us better express our message and reach communities and outlets interested in our work. We're grateful for their partnership and look forward to future collaboration.

& VIDEO
It’s hard to develop great marketing without impactful content, so whenever possible, we suggest businesses get some fresh professional photography to accompany their other projects. We coordinated two photoshoots at Sanctuary Farms with Ann Arbor’s talented Taylor Higgins as well as a video shoot with our friend Jon Brown from If So Studio.
WEBSITE
We set out to add new pages to the Sanctuary Farms website and discovered they were using an outdated version of the platform with limited functionality.
So we redesigned their website in the latest version of Squarespace, and designed some custom pages to improve sales, highlight their team and communicate their story.
Please note that live websites may have changes made by outside parties.
ONLINE SaLES
Sanctuary Farms wanted their sales systems online, in order to streamlinine the ordering process and make it easier to schedule a compost delivery.
First, we set Sanctuary Farms up on GrownBy (an affordable online sales platform for farms), where they sell a variety of produce. They tested it out last year, and this year are planning to accept SNAP directly in their online store to improve food access.
Next, we used scheduling software to set up effective compost ordering so customers can order compost online with a scheduled delivery date and pay for their order. This makes it easier for local residents to access compost and reduces staff time to manage compost sales.
aNNUaL REPORT DESIGN
As an entity looking to leave a lasting impact on its community, we saw an annual report as a great way for Sanctuary Farms to highlight its accomplishments. We designed a full report and a single-page overview of their work in 2023. These designs were created in Canva and shared as templates, allowing Sanctuary Farms to recreate the report in future years without paying a designer.
MaRKETING STRaTEGY
With some updated assets in hand, Sanctuary Farms needed to develop an effective strategy to make the most of those assets. We designed strategies for both social media and email marketing, giving Sanctuary Farms effective and efficient ways to engage with their customers and reach new audiences within the community.
Our partnership with Sanctuary Farms is far from over, but we’re thankful to have had the opportunity to build their marketing efforts together this past year.
